Solar Construction Journeyperson Electrician

Skills required:

  • Minimum 2 years’ solar installation experience required
  • Strong understanding of electrical safety standards
  • Ability to create, review and approve electrical schematics
  • Understanding of solar PV design principles
  • Ability to use software like AutoCAD or similar software for drafting
  • Familiarity with OHS requirements for working at heights
  • Ability to manage material and equipment effectively
  • Ability to manage a schedule on the fly and alert PM of any delays or concerns
  • Ability to effectively supervise workers and distribute workload to maximize project productivity 
  • Maintain project timelines and expectations
  • Maintain a clean worksite every day
  • A clean, professional demeanour is very important
  • Must ensure that you have your own PPE including CSA or ANSI Class I approved safety footwear, ankle support height with green triangle, hard hat and high visibility all weather clothing

Responsibilities:

  • Manage the installation and maintenance of solar PV systems, EV charging infrastructure, DC and AC coupled battery systems like the Tesla PowerWall, and lighting retro-fits as per drawings, SLD’s, and schematics
  • Ensure all work is completed in an efficient and sage manner, keeping a clean worksite everyday
  • Maintain an open line of communication with the Project Manager (PM)
  • Perform maintenance and repairs on electrical equipment and tools
  • Maintain a work vehicle, organize material, and submit paperwork & documents to the PM in a timely manner
  • Lead an individual or team of apprentices, managing their needs and expectations effectively
  • Work with other team members to ensure that your installation crew has all the tools they need to complete their assignments on time and organize schedules that take into account weather conditions, holidays, etc.
  • Log and submit time and safety documents daily via software
  • Direct and review the installation of all certification-based electrical components, following manufacturers’ installation recommendations while assuring quality control standards are met for all projects and levels of projects

Certificates:

  • First Aid – preferred not required
  • Fall Arrest – required
  • Mobile Elevated Work Platform – required
  • Drivers License – required
  • Criminal background check drivers abstract – required
  • (NOC 7241) Solar Photovoltaic (PV) Systems – preferred but not required
  • Fire Safety & Extinguisher training– preferred but not required

Full-time and could lead to a permanent position

There is room for growth at Gridworks Energy and the position could lead to more opportunities such as instructing solar courses throughout Canada. Instructing wage increases to $65/hr – $100/hr depending on course location

Starting wage: $32 to $36/hr for the qualified candidate
Salary: $85,000.00-$150,000.00 per year
