Solar Construction Apprentice Electrician
Skills required:
- Minimum of 2 years’ residential and commercial solar installation experience required
- A clean, professional demeanor is very important
- Exceptional communication skills – both verbal and written
- Exceptional organizational skills
- Ability to deal with short deadlines if required
- Comfortable at heights & on sloped roofs
- Ability to repeatedly lift 70+lbs
- Good understanding of electrical prints, drawings, diagrams & schematics is an asset
- Comfortable and willing to work on projects out of town
- Proven diagnostic skills; able to systematically identify and resolve electrical problems
- Self-motivated and calm under pressure
- Good knowledge of building controls, Solar PV systems, EV infrastructure, and building electrical infrastructure
- Reliable transportation to work sites or the Gridworks shop
- Must ensure that you have your own PPE including CSA or ANSI Class I approved safety footwear (ankle support height with green triangle), hard hat and high visibility all weather clothing
Responsibilities:
- Organize and maintain your installation crew
- Manage material and equipment effectively
- Support the installation and maintenance of solar PV systems and EV charging infrastructure
- Ensure work is completed in an efficient and safe manner
- Manage and maintain project timelines and expectations
- Maintain a clean worksite every day
- Manage schedule on the fly and alert the project manager (PM) of any delays or concerns
- Keep an open line of communication with PM and Journeyperson
- Input all required information (time sheets, safety documents, etc.) into software
Certificates:
- First Aid – preferred not required
- Fall Arrest – required
- Mobile Elevated Work Platform – required
- Drivers License – required
- Criminal background check and driver abstract – required
- CSTS 2020 – required
- (NOC 7241) Solar Photovoltaic (PV) Systems – preferred not required
- Fire Safety & Extinguisher training – preferred but not required

This position could lead to many more opportunities such as our Solar Training Program instruction. Instructors earn a wage starting at $65/hr to $100 /hr depending on location and size of course.
Full-time and could lead to a permanent position
Starting wage: $22-$34/hr for the qualified candidate
